Hello, I'm Roy Hudlin, your friendly neighborhood tech whisperer and a proud Canadian, eh? Born on the charming east coast in Fredericton, New Brunswick—a province just like BC but without the mountains—I was whisked away to Vancouver at a tender age. Leaving behind my extended family was tough, but it turned out to be the twist in my life's plot that set the stage for everything that followed. BC, with its stunning landscapes and endless opportunities, became the backdrop for my journey of ambition and discovery.
Growing up in Vancouver was like having a never-ending adventure in the most beautiful place on Earth, which I’m lucky enough to call home. Sure, city life had its share of bumps and bruises (literally, thanks to some questionable skateboarding skills), but each challenge taught me invaluable lessons—usually the hard way. Along the way, I encountered a colorful cast of characters who left a lasting impression on my career and life, shaping me into the professional I am today.
My career in technology began in the most humble of places: a matchbook advertisement. Intrigued by the promise of learning how electronics work, I enrolled in a course that sparked a lifelong passion. This led me to college, where I delved deep into the world of electronics and technology. I mastered board-level diagnostics, electronic theory, and practical circuitry. I became fluent in computers and telecommunications, sound and security systems—all during an era when digital technology was just starting to make waves.
Over the years, I’ve had a front-row seat to the tech revolution, experiencing its evolution from every conceivable angle. I started as a telephone technician, climbed the ranks to apprentice electronics technician, and then journeyman sound and communications technician. From there, I took on roles as a supervisor, superintendent, estimator, project manager, general manager, branch manager, and regional manager—all within the contracting trades of communications and security.
Eventually, I heeded the persistent advice of a respected colleague and transitioned into consulting—a role that perfectly aligns with my skill set and personality. Consulting allows me to leverage my extensive experience, technical expertise, and outgoing nature to provide clients with the robust advice and support they crave. I also get to extend this support to engineers, builders, and contractors, fostering innovation and excellence across the board.
I genuinely love what I do and am thrilled to have found my true calling. I eagerly anticipate collaborating with other talented, innovative thinkers who need my assistance. My penchant for out-of-the-box thinking has been the driving force throughout my life, and it will undoubtedly continue to fuel my passion well into the future. So, whether you need a tech guru, a strategic consultant, or just someone who can fix that stubborn circuit, I'm your guy. Let's create something amazing together!
The first step in the acquisition of wisdom is silence, the second listening, the third memory, the fourth practice, the fifth teaching others.
